INFORMATION QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I install the spark arrestor?

The spark arrestor is installed at the bottom of the pipe, with the mesh dome facing down into the stove. The spark arrestor will replace the stainless steel band at the bottom of the pipe.

I have a trip in x days, can you get me a stove prior to my trip?

Chances are good that we can. We typically have stoves in stock and can usually get your order delivered in a few days, depending on where you are. If your order is time sensitive call or email us first to make sure we can get the order out to you before your trip.

Do you have instructions on how to put the stove together?

We don’t include a paper copy or installation manual with the stoves. We do however have videos that take you through how to put a stove and pipe together. You can watch the videos here: [link to videos]

How do I install the baffle?

The baffle needs to be installed prior to putting the top plate on. You will not be able to install the baffle through the door after the stove is assembled. Once you place the baffle in the stove you can place the top plate on the stove. Note: it may take some wiggling the first time you assemble, the baffle needs to sit in between the body and plate and sometimes it takes some gentle coaxing. You can see an instructional video showing you how to install the baffle here: [link to videos]

How long of a stove pipe do I need?

We recommend a pipe which extends around 2 feet above the peak of your tent. When calculating how long of a stove pipe you need, take into account the top of the stove sits 10-12″ above the ground. For example, if you have a tent with a peak 6′ high, we would recommend getting a pipe 7′ long.  A longer pipe also helps with a better draft. If you have a tent that is between pipe sizes, it is best to round up, it is easier to cut 6″ off the pipe if needed than to add 6″.

What size of stove do I need for my tent?

This question is extremely hard to answer as it depends on a long list of variables such as time of year, outside temperatures, what kind of wood you’re using, is weight important, what you need the stove to accomplish, etc. If you send us an email with as much information in regards to the question above, we will offer my opinions to help with your decision. In general, the tents that are 8-11 feet in diameter and 6-7 feet high do best with a standard stove 18″ long.

What is the burn time of your stoves?

Again, similar to the question above, this is a hard question to answer as it depends on many variables. Due to these variables which are out of our control, burn time is something we cannot guarantee. Customer feedback we have received has been very positive, and we feel our stoves will out-burn the competitors. On average, we would say if some decent fuel is used, the burn time would be between 1-2 hours. Some customers have told us they have gotten up to 4-5 hours (which is probably the top end of the XL stove if all variables are absolutely ideal).

How much room does the baffle take up in the stove?

The baffle sits fairly high in the stove, about 2.5″ from the top. You would rarely be able to stack wood this high in the stove, so using a baffle has little to no effect on the amount of fuel you can put in the stove.
